23. சீதக் கடலுள் அமுது அன்ன தேவகி
கோதைக் குழலாள் அசோதைக்குப் போத்தந்த
பேதைக் குழவி பிடித்துச் சுவைத்து உண்ணும்
பாதக் கமலங்கள் காணீரே
பவள வாயீர் வந்து காணீரே (23)
23. O, coral-lipped ladies, come here asnd see. Here is the darling child which nectar-sweet Devaki gave to the coiffured dame Yasoda. See the innocent child grab his foot and suck his toe! (23) Srirama Bharati
23. Come and see the lotus feet
of the innocent child of Devaki
who was given to Yashoda by Devaki, his mother,
and who is as sweet as the nectar
that came from the milky ocean.
He puts his lotus foot in his mouth and tastes it.
See, you have mouths red as coral.

and see the gem-hued lord’s feet, full
with ten little toes like pearls, garnets
and diamonds set in gold all over.(2)

அணைத்து ஆர உண்டு கிடந்த இப் பிள்ளை

கணைக்கால் இருந்தவா காணீரே
காரிகையீர் வந்து காணீரே (25)
25. Beautiful Ladies, come here and see, this child sleeps after sucking from the milk-laden breasts of a young slender Gopi of bamboo-like arms. His two feet are adorned by silver anklets. 25 Srirama Bharati

that are decorated with shining silver ornaments
as he drinks milk from Yashoda's breasts
embracing her and sleeps peacefully.
O beautiful girls,

26. உழந்தாள் நறுநெய் ஒரோர் தடா உண்ண
இழந்தாள் எரிவினால் ஈர்த்து எழில் மத்தின்
பழந்தாம்பால் ஓச்ச பயத்தால் தவழ்ந்தான்
முழந்தாள் இருந்தவா காணீரே
முகிழ்முலையீர் வந்து காணீரே (26)
26. Full breasted Ladies, come here and see the beautiful knees of this child. He ale the butter from every pot. so painstakingly collected by his unfortunate mother, and incurred her wrath. When she pulled him up and threatened him with a churning rope, he cringed away in fear! 26 Srirama Bharati

who ate fragrant ghee from all the pots
that Yashoda had filled doing hard work.
He was beaten with a rope by Yashoda
and crawled away from her in fear.

27. பிறங்கிய பேய்ச்சி முலை சுவைத்து உண்டிட்டு
உறங்குவான் போலே கிடந்த இப்பிள்ளை
மறம் கொள் இரணியன் மார்வை முன் கீண்டான்
குறங்குகளை வந்து காணீரே
குவிமுலையீர் வந்து காணீரே (27)
Ladies of risen breasts, come here
and see the thighs of this child, who
drained the bright ogress Putana's
breasts with relish and lay like a sleeping
child. Long ago he tore apart the hate-

after drinking the milk from the breasts of the cruel
devil Puthana and killing her.
He split the chest of the heroic Hiraṇyan.

see the balls of this child Achyuta, born
on the tenth day from Hastam, front
the womb of Devaki, dear to Vasudev

who was born ten days after the star Astham
from the womb of Devaki
who is always in the heart of her husband Vasudevan,
the lord of many elephants that drip ichor.

பருங்கிப் பறித்துக்கொண்டு ஓடும் பரமன்தன்
நெருங்கு பவளமும் நேர்நாணும் முத்தும்

வாணுதலீர் வந்து காணீரே (29)
Bright forehead Ladies, come here
and see the waist-lace of this child,
threaded with corals and pearls, as
he runs dragging a killed rut-elephant

29. Come and see the waist decorated
with strings of coral and beautiful pearls of the highest god
who killed the mighty-trunked rutting elephant Kuvalayabeeḍam
and took its ivory tusks and ran away.
O girls, you have shining foreheads,
see his waist, come and see!

தந்தக் களிறு போல் தானே விளையாடும்
நந்தன் மதலைக்கு நன்றும் அழகிய
உந்தி இருந்தவா காணீரே

Bright-jewelled Ladies, come here
and see the perfectly beautiful navel
of this child born to Nandagopa; like
an elephant he plays with himself,
ignoring the teams of children who

30. Come and see the lovely navel
of the cowherd chief Nandan’s son
who is as strong as a white-tusked elephant.
He plays mischievously with a group of children
and gives them trouble.

31. அதிருங் கடல்நிற வண்ணனை ஆய்ச்சி
மதுரமுலை ஊட்டி வஞ்சித்து வைத்துப்
பதறப் படாமே பழந் தாம்பால் ஆர்த்த
உதரம் இருந்தவா காணீரே
ஒளிவளையீர் வந்து காணீரே (31
Bright-bangled Ladies, come here
and see the beautiful radiant stomach
of the dark ocean hued lord. His
mother gave him sweet suck, then
stealthily bound him with an old
rope without rousing him.

whose color is as dark as the roaring ocean.
The cowherdess Yashoda fed him sweet milk
from her breasts and then tricked him
and tied him up with an old rope without worrying about him.
O girls, you are decorated with shining bangles,

32. பெரு மா உரலிற் பிணிப்புண்டு இருந்து அங்கு
இரு மா மருதம் இறுத்த இப் பிள்ளை
குரு மா மணிப்பூண் குலாவித் திகழும்
திருமார்வு இருந்தவா காணீரே
சேயிழையீர் வந்து காணீரே (32)
Bright-jewelled Ladies, come here
and see the radiant chest of this
child adorned with a dazzling
pendant. Tethered to a huge mortar,
lie crawled between the twin Arjuna
trees and broke them.  32  Srirama Bharati

32. Come and see the chest
decorated with the shining Kaustubham ornament
and studded with large diamonds
of the child who pulled the big mortar
between two marudam trees and made them fall
when I, Yashoda tied him to the mortar.
O girls, you are decorated with precious ornaments,
come and see his chest!

33. நாள்கள் ஓர் நாலைந்து திங்கள் அளவிலே
தாளை நிமிர்த்துச் சகடத்தைச் சாடிப்போய்
வாள் கொள் வளைஎயிற்று ஆருயிர் வவ்வினான்
தோள்கள் இருந்தவா காணீரே
சுரிகுழலீர் வந்து காணீரே (33)
O Ladies with curly locks, come
here and see the arms of this child.
About four or five months old, he
smote the devilish cart and sucked
the life out of the brightly smiling
ogress Putana. 33

who kicked and took the dear life of Sakatasuran
who came in the form of a cart.
He killed Puthana who has sharp sword-like teeth
when he was only four or five months old.
O girls, you have curly hair, come and see his shoulders.

34. மைத் தடங்கண்ணி யசோதை வளர்க்கின்ற
செய்த்தலை நீல நிறத்துச் சிறுப்பிள்ளை
நெய்த்தலை நேமியும் சங்கும் நிலாவிய
கைத்தலங்கள் வந்து காணீரே
கனங்குழையீர் வந்து காணீரே (34)
O Ladies wearing beautiful ear-rings,
come here and see. This dark hued child
is a tender blossom in Kajal-lined wide-
eyed Yasoda's garden. These here are
hands that hold a sharp discus and conch  34 Srirama Bharati

34. Come and see the hands
of the dark-blue-colored child with beautiful hair
who carries in them the conch and the discus
that is smeared with oil.
Yashoda’s dark eyes are decorated with kohl
and she is raising Kannan, the beautiful child.
O girls, you are decorated with precious ornaments,
come and see his hands.

35. வண்டு அமர் பூங்குழல் ஆய்ச்சி மகனாகக்
கொண்டு வளர்க்கின்ற கோவலக் குட்டற்கு
அண்டமும் நாடும் அடங்க விழுங்கிய
கண்டம் இருந்தவா காணீரே
காரிகையீர் வந்து காணீரே (35)
35. Beautiful Ladies, come here and
see. The cowherd-child whom the bee-
humnung flower-coiffured dame Yasoda
bring up as her own son, swallowed
the Universe and all the worlds in it.
 O see his beautiful neck.  35  Srirama Bharati

35. Come and see the neck of the small cowherd child
who is being raised by Yashoda.
She has lovely hair, decorated with flowers
swarming with bees.
See his neck that swallowed all the worlds and the sky.
O beautiful girls, see his neck.

36. எம் தொண்டை வாய்ச் சிங்கம் வா என்று எடுத்துக்கொண்டு
அந் தொண்டை வாய் அமுது ஆதரித்து ஆய்ச்சியர்
தம் தொண்டை வாயால் தருக்கிப் பருகும் இச்
செந் தொண்டை வாய் வந்து காணீரே
சேயிழையீர் வந்து காணீரே (36)
O Ladies wearing gem-set jewels, come here and see! Amorous cowherd
girls lift this child saying, "Come my lion-cub!",
press him against their coral lips, and drink
the sap that oozes from his red berry lips. (14) Srirama Bharati

who have mouths red as thoṇḍai fruits
kiss his red mouth, drink its nectar, and embrace him, saying,
“O you who are a lion and have a mouth
as sweet as a thoṇḍai fruit, come.”
O girls, you are decorated with lovely ornaments!
Come and see his mouth red as a thoṇḍai fruit.

37. நோக்கி யசோதை நுணுக்கிய மஞ்சளால்
நாக்கு வழித்து நீராட்டும் இந் நம்பிக்கு
வாக்கும் நயனமும் வாயும் முறுவலும்
மூக்கும் இருந்தவா காணீரே
மொய்குழலீர் வந்து காணீரே (37
O Ladies with dense coiffure, come
here and see. With freshly ground
turmeric, Yasoda carefully bathes
the child and cleans his tongue. See
his eyes, nose, mouth and smile. (13)

மண் கொள் வசுதேவர்தம் மகனாய் வந்து
திண் கொள் அசுரரைத் தேய வளர்கின்றான்

கனவளையீர் வந்து காணீரே (38)
O Gold-bangled Ladies, come
here and see. To end the miseries of
the gods in heaven, he has taken
birth on Earth as Vasudev's child,
and grows up destroying mighty

who was born on earth as the son of Vasudevan.
He was brought up to destroy the strong Asurans,
and remove the suffering of the gods in the heavens.

திருவின் வடிவு ஒக்கும் தேவகி பெற்ற

பூண்முலையீர் வந்து காணீரே (39)
O Jewel-breasted Ladies, come here
and see. This child whom Lakshmi-
like Devaki begot, has a dark frame
like a radiant black gem. Even before
coming of age, he delivers the whole
world. See his shapelv eyebrows. 39  Srirama Bharati

39. Come and see the eyebrows of the dark child
who shines like a dark jewel
and came to save the world.
He was born to Devaki, beautiful as Lakshmi.
She gave birth to a child
even though she was too young to give birth.
O girls with breasts decorated with ornaments,
come and see his eyebrows. Come and see.

உண்ணுந் திறத்து மகிழ்ந்து உண்ணும் பிள்ளைக்கு

O Jewelled Ladies, come here and see
the well-made Makara- like golden
ear rings of this child. During Pralaya
he gorges himself joyously with the
seven worlds, the seven lands, the seven
mountains and the seven oceans. 40

the earth, hills, oceans and all the seven worlds.

சிற்றில் இழைத்துத் திரிதருவோர்களைப்
பற்றிப் பறித்துக்கொண்டு ஓடும் பரமன்தன்

நேரிழையீர் வந்து காணீரே (41)
O Ladies with excellent jewels,
come here and see the forehead of
the lord. He snatches the winnow
plates, pots and Palm-leaf dolls
from girls playing ‘house’ in the
sand, and runs away.

41. When small girls carrying a winnowing fan and a small pot
wander holding a puvai bird on their wrists
and make play houses,
the dear child of Yashoda grabs the birds from their hands
and runs away.

கழல்கள் சதங்கை கலந்து எங்கும் ஆர்ப்ப
மழ கன்றினங்கள் மறித்துத் திரிவான்

குவிமுலையீர் வந்து காணீரே (42)
O Full-breasted Ladies, come here and
see the curly locks of this child. He
rounds up a herd ol young calves and
goes roaming with a golden staff in
his beautiful hands, his sandals and his
anklets striking a merry jingle. 42  Srirama Bharati

42. Carrying a beautiful golden stick
in his hands he runs behind baby calves
as the lovely sound of his anklets spreads everywhere.
O girls who have round breasts, come and see his curly hair.

43. சுருப்பார் குழலி யசோதை முன் சொன்ன
திருப் பாதகேசத்தைத் தென்புதுவைப் பட்டன்
விருப்பால் உரைத்த இருபதோடு ஒன்றும்
உரைப்பார் போய் வைகுந்தத்து ஒன்றியிருப்பரே (43)
These twenty-one songs by Pattarbiran
of Puduvai fame recall the foot-
to-head adoration of Krishna by
Yasoda of yore. Those who sing it will
go and live in Vaikunta. 43  Srirama Bharati

The poet Puduvaippaṭṭan of the southern Puduvai,
composed poems with Yashoda’s words.
The devotees who recite these twenty-one poems
will go to Vaikuṇṭam and remain there.
