குருமுகம் அநதீத்ய ப்ராக வேதான் அசேஷான்
நரபதி பரிக்ல்ப்தம் சுல்கம் ஆதாது காம
ச்வசுரம் அமர வந்த்யம் ரங்கனாதஸ்ய சாக்ஷாத்
த்விஜ குலதிலகம் தம் விஷ்ணு சித்தம் நமாமி.Praise to Vishnu Chittar, the most eminent among the twice-born Brahmanas, who through Andal became the father-in-law of Ranganathar, and was a learned exponent of Vedas without the tutelage of Gurus.

சொன்னார் கழற்கமலம் சூடினோம் - முன்னாள்

பாதங்கள் யாமுடைய பற்று.King Pandiyan celebrated the arrival of Pattarpiran who earning the name Periyalvar, explicated the Vedas and earned his prize. May his feet be ours in affection.

1: Live for zillions of years.
பல்லாண்டு பல்லாண்டு பல்லாயிரத்தாண்டு
பலகோடி நூறாயிரம்
மல்லாண்ட திண்தோள் மணிவண்ணா. உன்
செவ்வடிசெவ்விதிருக்காப்பு. 1.1.1(May you live and flourish for) a zillion years, O gem-colored Lord with mighty and brawny shoulders and red lotus feet to which we seek refuge.
2: Allegiance to You, Your Consort, Discus and Conch.
அடியோமோடும் நின்னோடும் பிரிவின்றி ஆயிரம்பல்லாண்டு
வடிவாய் நின் வலமார்பினில் வாழ்கின்ற மங்கையும் பல்லாண்டு
வடிவார் சோதி வலத்துறையும் சுடர் ஆழியும் பல்லாண்டு
படைபோர் புக்கு முழங்கும் அப் பாஞ்சசன்னியமும் பல்லாண்டே. (2)
Zillion years of inseparable link between You and we the slaves of yours, to your consort residing on your chest, the splendorous discus and the Panchajanaya conch. 1.1.2
3: Come and get Prasadam.
வாழாட்பட்டு நின்றீருள்ளீரேல் வந்து மண்ணும் மணமும் கொண்மின்
கூழாட்பட்டு நின்றீர்களை எங்கள் குழுவினில் புகுதலொட்டோ ம்;
ஏழாட்காலும் பழிப்பிலோம் நாங்கள் இராக்கதர் வாழ்இலங்கை
பாழாளாகப் படைபொருதானுக்குப் பல்லாண்டு கூறுதமே. 1.1.3
You, the sufferers in life. Come and get the sacred earth and fragrance. We deny entry to the epicures in our midst. We are pure of sins for seven generations. pallāṇṭu (Zillion years) to the destroyer of Lanka, the abode of demons (and Ravana). 1.1.3
4: Om namo Narayanaya.
ஏடுநிலத்தில் இடுவதன் முன்னம் வந்து எங்கள் குழாம் புகுந்து
கூடு மனமுடையீர்கள் வரம் பொழிவந்து ஒல்லைக்கூடுமினோ
நாடும் நகரமும் நன்கறிய நமோநாராயணாய வென்று
பாடுமனமுடைப் பத்தருள்ளீர். வந்து பல்லாண்டு கூறுமினே. 1.1.4
Before you are interred into the burial ground, join our group, O the like-minded, to enjoy the bliss. Let the town and country resound with the sound of Namo Narayanaya, O the devotees with the penchant to sing (His glory). Come and sing the pallāṇṭu. 1.1.4
5: Worship the feet of Bhagavan.
அண்டக் குலத்துக் கதிபதியாகி அசுரர் இராக்கதரை
இண்டைக் குலத்தை எடுத்துக்களைந்த இருடீகேசன் தனக்கு
தொண்டக்குலத்தில் உள்ளீர். வந்தடிதொழுது ஆயிர நாமம் சொல்லி
பண்டைக் குலத்தைத் தவிர்ந்து பல்லாண்டு பல்லாயிரத்தாண்டு என்மினே. 1.1.5.
Irudikesan (Hrsikesa = हृषीकेश = hṛṣīkeśa. (having his hair erect), ep. of Viṣṇu-Kṛṣṇa) became the Lord of the Universe and eradicated the Asuras and Raksasas, thick as a dense brush. O Devotee-slaves of the Lord, come and worship His feet and chant His thousand names. Give up the hubris of high birth and sing Pallāṇṭu. 1.1.56: Man-Lion Avatar of the Lord.
எந்தை தந்தை தந்தை தந்தை தம் மூத்தப்பன் ஏழ்படிகால் தொடங்கி
வந்து வழிவழி ஆட்செய்கின்றோம்; திருவோணத் திருவிழவில்
அந்தியம் போதில் அரியுரு வாகி அரியை அழித்தவனை
பந்தனை தீரப் பல்லாண்டு பல்லாயிரத்தாண்டு என்று பாடுதமே. 6.
My father, his fathers father and grandfather before him, well over seven generations rendered service to Bhagavan. In Asterism of Sravanam, at dusk, He took the form of Man-Lion and destroyed the enemy. To expiate and obtain release from the bondage (sin of murder), let us sing pallāṇṭu Pallayiraththāndu. (அரி = ari = enemy; lion.) 1.1.6
7: Pallandu to the valorous Lord.
தீயிற் பொலிகின்ற செஞ்சுடர் ஆழி திகழ் திருச்சக்கரத்தின்
கோயிற் பொறியாலே ஒற்றுண்டு நின்று குடிகுடி ஆட்செய்கின்றோம்
மாயப் பொருபடை வாணனை ஆயிரந்தோளும் பொழி குருதி
பாயச் சுழற்றிய ஆழி வல்லானுக்குப் பல்லாண்டு கூறுதுமே. 7.
We are branded with the radiant fiery sacred discus and serve Bhagavan over many generations. He deployed His discus on illusory Vāṇan, ripped his thousand shoulders wherefrom the blood ran (like a river). To that Discus Wielder, let us chant pallāṇṭu. 1.1.7
8: Pallandu to the munificent Lord.
நெய்யிடை நல்லதோர் சோறும் நியதமும் அத்தாணிச் சேவகமும்
கை அடைக்காயும் கழுத்துக்குப் பூணொடு காதுக்குக் குண்டலமும்
மெய்யிட நல்லதோர் சாந்தமும் தந்து என்னை வெள்ளுயிர் ஆக்கவல்ல
பையுடை நாகப்பகைக் கொடியானுக்குப் பல்லாண்டு கூறுவனே. 8.
Bhagavan bestows on me, Butter-rice, the opportunity to do service, Pan-supari, ornaments for the neck and ears, and Sandalwood paste to smear. Bhagavan, whose banner is Garuda, which kills the enemy-snakes, ensures good conduct in me. To that flag-holder, I sing Pallandu. 1.1.8
9: We the Devotee-Slaves enjoy using your leftovers and discards.
உடுத்துக் களைந்த நின் பீதக ஆடை யுடுத்துக் கலத்ததுண்டு
தொடுத்த துழாய்மலர் சூடிக் களைந்தன சூடுமித் தொண்டர்களோம்
விடுத்த திசைக்கருமம் திருத்தித் திருவோணத் திருவிழவில்
படுத்த பைந் நாகணைப் பள்ளி கொண்டானுக்குப் பல்லாண்டு கூறுதுமே. 9.O Lord, we wear your discarded yellow clothes, eat the food left over after offerings to you, and rejoice ourselves by wearing Tulsi (Sacred basil) garlands worn and discarded by you. We the toṇṭars (Devotee-Slaves) chant Pallandu on the sacred day of Tiruvonam, as You rest on the coils of the five-hooded snake. 1.1.9
10: We the vassals and servitors attain liberation through your grace.
எந்நாள் எம்பெருமான் உன்தனக்கு அடியோமென்று எழுத்துப்பட்ட
அந்நாளே அடியோங்கள் அடிக்குடில் வீடுபெற்று உய்ந்தது காண்
செந்நாள் தோற்றித் திருமதுரையுள் சிலை குனித்து ஐந்தலைய
பைந்நாகத்தலை பாய்ந்தவனே. உன்னைப் பல்லாண்டு கூறுதுமே. 10.
The day, Emperuman declared us His vassals, is the very day we the servitors at your feet through generations past attained liberation. On the auspicious day of Tiruvonam, You made an appearance in the sacred city of Mathura, destroyed the arsenal (of Kamsa) and danced on the five-hooded snake (named Kalia). I chant the Pallandu. 1.1.10
11: Namo Narayana
அல்வழக்கு ஒன்றுமில்லா அணிகோட்டியர் கோன் அபிமானதுங்கன்
செல்வனைப் போல திருமாலே. நானும் உனக்குப் பழவடியேன்
நல்வகையால் நமோ நாராயணா வென்று நாமம் பல பரவி
பல்வகையாலும் பவித்திரனே. உன்னைப் பல்லாண்டு கூறுவனே. 11.
O Tirumal, I am your servitor from yore like the faultless Kottiyur Selva Nambi. To cultivate a mind of desirelessness, I chant your many names like Namo Narayana. O the Pure, I chant Pallandu. 1.1.1112: We the servitors sing your praise.
பல்லாண்டென்று பவித்திரனைப் பரமேட்டியை சார்ங்கம் என்னும்
வில்லாண்டான் தன்னை வில்லிபுத்தூர் விட்டு சித்தன் விரும்பிய சொல்
நல்லாண்டென்று நவின்றுரைப்பார் நமோநாராயணாய வென்று
பல்லாண்டும் பரமாத்மனைச் சூழ்ந்திருந்து ஏத்துவர் பல்லாண்டே. 12.
The Pallandu-fame pure One is the Wielder of Sarangam bow. Villiputtur Chittan spoke these sweet words with love, saying this was a good year for them too. The servitors, singing and chanting Namo Narayanaya surround and praise the Paramatman and chant Pallandu. 1.1.12பெரியாழ்வார் திருமொழி Periazvar sacred words.

13: Bhagavan Krishnas Birth
வண்ணமாடங்கள் சூழ் திருக்கோட்டியூர்
கண்ணன் கேசவன் நம்பி பிறந்தினில்
எண்ணெய் சுண்ணம் எதிரெதிர் தூவிடக்
கண்ணன்முற்றம் கலந்து அளறு ஆயிற்றே. 1.2.1
Kannan-Kesavan-Nampis (Nampi = God) birth in Tirukkottiyur replete with resplendent mansions prompted people to splash fragrant oils and turmeric powder on each other causing a mire in Krishnas mansion. 1.2.114: Musical Revelry by the cowherds.
ஓடுவார் விழுவார் உகந்து ஆலிப்பார்
நாடுவார் நம்பிரான் எங்குத்தான் என்பார்
பாடுவார்களும் பல்பறை கொட்ட நின்று
ஆடுவார்களும் ஆயிற்று ஆய்ப்பாடியே. 2.They ran, they fell, they rose and they embraced each other in joy. They asked where Nampiran (நம்பிரான் = Nampirāṉ = Lord, god) was. Singers singing, drummers beating many kinds of drums and dancers dancing to the music assembled in the cowherds hamlet (ஆய்ப்பாடி āy-p-pāṭi). 1.2.2
15: The cowherds obtain Dharsan of Divine Baby.
பேணிச் சீர் உடைப்பிள்ளை பிறந்தினில்
காணத் தாம் புகுவார் புக்குப் போதுவார்;
ஆண் ஒப்பார் இவன் நேர் இல்லை காண், திரு
வோணத்தான் உலகு ஆளும் என்பார்களே. 3.
To see the famous and guarded newborn, they eagerly entered the hamlet and no sooner they left, they said, 'There is no one manlier than Him.' 'He is the Tiruvonatthan (the One born in Tiruvonam) destined to rule the world.' 1.2.3Krishnas birthstar is Thiruvonam. See #22.

16: The cowherds empty the dairy products in celebration and go mad with happiness.
உறியை முற்றத்து உருட்டி நின்று ஆடுவார்
நறுநெய் பால் தயிர் நன்றாகத் தூவுவார்
செறி மென் கூந்தல் அவிழத் திளைத்து எங்கும்
அறிவு அழிந்தனர் ஆய்ப்பாடி ஆயரே. 4.They (the cowherd) splashed the good ghee, milk and curds from their rope-suspended pots in the inner yard, rolled the empty pots and danced. They (the womenfolk) loosened their hair, threw them (to the wind) and lost their minds. 1.2.4
17: They came in droves carrying accouterments and sporting rows of Jasmine-like teeth.
கொண்ட தாள் உறி கோலக் கொடுமழுத்
தண்டினர், பறியோலைச் சயனத்தர்
விண்ட முல்லையரும்பு அன்ன பல்லினர்
அண்டர் மிண்டிப் புகுந்து நெய்யாடினார். 5.
17. They came in droves, carrying the rope-suspended pots, sturdy shafts with sharp axes, sleeping mats...The cowherd womenfolk sporting rows of white teeth resembling jasmine buds jostled each other (to see the baby) and smeared each other with clarified butter. 1.2.518: Yasoda while bathing Kannan saw the seven worlds in His open mouth.
கையும் காலும் நிமிர்த்துக் கடார நீர்
பைய ஆட்டிப் பசுஞ்சிறு மஞ்சளால்
ஐய நா வழித்தாளுக்கு அங்காந்திட
வையம் ஏழும் கண்டாள் பிள்ளை வாயுளே. 6.
18. Yasoda bathed Kannan, extended his hands and feet, and pleaded with the child to protrude his tongue to remove the mucus with tender turmeric . She saw all the seven worlds in the child's mouth. 1.2.619: The cowherd women declared He was no son of a cowherd but a divine child.
வாயுள் வையகம் கண்ட மடநல்லார்
ஆயர் புத்திரன் அல்லன் அருந்தெய்வம்;
பாய சீர் உடைப் பண்பு உடைப் பாலகன்
மாயன் என்று மகிழ்ந்தனர் மாதரே. 7.
19. The young women, on seeing the Universe, declared, 'He is no cowherd son; He is the Supreme Lord; He is a child with a plethora of auspicious qualities. The womenfolk were rapturous saying He was a Mayan (Illusory). 1.2.7
20: Kannan the protector of cowherds from hailstorm by lifting the Govardhana hill.
பத்து நாளும் கடந்த இரண்டாம் நாள்
எத்திசையும் சயமரம் கோடித்து,
மத்த மா மலை தாங்கிய மைந்தனை
உத்தானம் செய்து உகந்தனர் ஆயரே. 8.உத்தானம் uttāṉam. ut-thānam. Ceremony of bringing out an infant from the lying-in room (the state of being in childbed); confinement. First Infant-outing ceremony.
On the twelfth day following birth, to celebrate Kannans First Infant-Outing ceremony, the cowherds built the festooned posts on all sides. Yasoda (and others) raised the child from the crib, singing He was the one who held the Govardhana Hill harboring the wild elephants to protect the cowherds during hailstorms and ferocious floods. 1.2.8
21: Kannan is too active and his mother is worn out.
கிடக்கில் தொட்டில் கிழிய உதைத்திடும்;
எடுத்துக் கொள்ளில் மருங்கை இறுத்திடும்;
ஒடுக்கிப் புல்கில் உதரத்தே பாய்ந்திடும்
மிடுக்கு இலாமையால் நான் மெலிந்தேன் நங்காய். 9.
As Krishna remains in the crib, he kicks so hard as if to break it. When I pick him up, he flails and breaks my waist. If I hold him close to my chest, he kicks my abdomen. Since he lacks self-control, I am worn out, my dear friend. 1.2.922: Vishnu Chittans explicative songs about Narayanas birth will expunge sins.
செந்நெல் ஆர் வயல் சூழ் திருக்கோட்டியூர்
மன்னு நாரணன் நம்பி பிறந்தமை
மின்னு நூல் விட்டு சித்தன் விரித்த இப்
பன்னு பாடல் வல்லார்க்கு இல்லை பாவமே. (2) 10.
Vishnu Chittan wearing the splendorous thread sang explicative songs of the birth of Narayana in Tirukkottiyur surrounded by golden paddy fields. The devotees who sing these songs will not accumulate sins. 1.2.10

23: See Kannan suck on His toes.
சீதக் கடலுள் அமுது அன்ன தேவகி
கோதைக் குழலாள் அசோதைக்குப் போத்தந்த
பேதைக் குழவி பிடித்துச் சுவைத் உண்ணும்
பாதக் கமலங்கள் காணீரே
பவள வாயீர். வந்து காணீரே. (2) 1.3.123. Devaki of cool ambrosial ocean gave to flower-coiffured Yasoda the preverbal infant Kannan , who put his feet in His mouth and sucked on the toes. O Coral-mouthed lasses, come and look at His lotus feet. 1.3.1
24:Damsels, come and see Kannans body and ten toes sporting ornaments.
முத்தும் மணியும் வயிரமும் நன்பொன்னும்
தத்திப் பதித்துத் தலைப்பெய்தாற்போல் எங்கும்
பத்து விரலும் மணிவண்ணன் பாதங்கள்
ஒத்திட்டிருந்தவா காணீரே
ஒண்ணுதலீர். வந்துகாணீரே. 2.24. O damsels with bright foreheads! Come and see the gem-colored Kannan's body and feet with ten toes having pearls, bluestones, diamonds, and gold alternately arranged in an impeccable fashion. 1.3.2
25: O beauteous women, come and see the anklets of Kannan, who sleeps after nursing on Yasoda.
பணைத்தோள் இள ஆய்ச்சி பால் பாய்ந்த கொங்கை
அணைத்து ஆர உண்டு கிடந்த இப்பிள்ளை
இணைக்காலில் வெள்ளித் தளை நின்று இலங்கும்

31. Yasoda nursed Ocean-hued Kannan her sweet milk to satiety, and stealthily without any haste tied down with an old cord his stomach, which, O ladies with splendorous bangles come and look. 1.3.9
32: Krishna broke the two Arjuna trees.
பெருமா உரலிற் பிணிப்புண்டு இருந்து அங்கு
இருமா மருதம் இறுத்த இப் பிள்ளை
குருமா மணிப்பூண் குலாவித் திகழும்
திருமார்பு இருந்தவா காணீரே
சேயிழையீர். வந்துகாணீரே. 10.Tied down to a huge stone mortar, Kannan (crawled and ) broke the two big Arjuna trees (Terminalia arjuna). O bejeweled Damsels, come and look at the splendorous chest of this child adorned with blue stone. 1.3.10
Two Asuras (anti-gods) morphing into two Arjuna trees came to kill Krishna, who broke the trees and took the life-sap out of them.
